In the face of fear
Hebrews 11:15-16 ESV
If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore GOD is not ashamed to be called their GOD, for HE has prepared for them a city.
The minute my eyes open in the morning I begin to seek GOD. Not because I'm so holy, but because I know my life depends on it. Without HIS direction I am lost.
As I began to talk with HIM and confess that at some point I allowed fear to touch me; to move me, HE took me again to Hebrews 11. HE said they did it in the face of fear! The fact that we may feel fear is not uncommon. Every last person listed in Hebrews 11 faced fear. The difference between them and many of us today is what we decide to do when fear rears its ugly head!
Our Heavenly FATHER prepared us for fear, as HE has done with everything else that we will face in this life. HE said I have not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. Fear is indeed a spirit for which many of us dismiss. While we belittle its power, it shakes the very core of our lives.
Have you ever taken a moment to think about what would happen if you just did "it" in the face of fear. Yeah, you know that thing that scares you the most. That very thing that you can almost taste, yet you stand in front of it paralyzed. Well, I'll tell you what would happen should you choose to put one foot in front of the other and keep going.
According to Hebrews you would:
v. 4 - be commended as righteous
v. 5 - be commended as having pleased GOD
v. 7 - be warned of GOD of events not yet seen
v. 8 - called out to receive an inheritance
v. 9 - Live in the land of promise
v. 11 - receive power to conceive/birth/ bring forth (dreams, promises, visions)
I could go on and on for verses, and the day would be well spent. So I'll wrap up at verse 11 and 12, which reads:
By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered HIM faithful who had promised. Therefore, from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.
Someone feels it's too late. That too much time has passed and too much has happened. Yet, I beg of you to not give up! I beseech you to keep believing that GOD is faithful to perform the promise that HE has made to you. For the word says that even though Sarah was past the age (Logically it shouldn't have happened; made no sense.) she considered him faithful who had promised.
I know it looks bad, but because she considered GOD faithful and trusted HIM to fulfill HIS promise from one man came many nations. You don't believe it? You don't believe that one person believing the word of GOD can change the entire world? Well following the statement that Sarah considered GOD faithful is followed by the word therefore. Therefore means: for that reason; consequently, as a result, hence, thus, accordingly, ergo...
Something GOD has promised you seems a long time coming. It even looks impossible to everyone else around you. I know that the fear of looking like a fool is playing over and over again in your mind. I know that you have every logical reason to turn back. I'm here to encourage you today to not lose hope. Keep believing even in the face of fear. For our GOD is faithful to perform HIS promises!
