To BE or not To BE

I Peter 5:8-10 ESV

Be sober-minded; be watchful.  Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.  And after you have suffered a little while, the GOD of all grace, who has called you to HIS eternal Glory in CHRIST, will HIMself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.


Lately I've noticed just how much GOD tell us to BE something.  Be watchful; be vigilant; be kind.  HE never tells us to act watchful or to pretend to be vigilant.  HE tells us to be!

Oxford Living Dictionaries gives this definition: Exist, occur; take place, having the state, quality, identity, nature, role, etc., (en.oxforddictionaries.com)

So now the Vivian version: to exist as kindness and love in the earth.  To allow such virtues to take place in your heart producing a continued state of love and kindness.  Having an identity of love, faith, joy, grace and mercy towards all mankind.

My goal for 2018 is to BE.  To BE all that GOD has called me to BE.  To BE present in the moment and enjoying the fullness of the life GOD has prepared for me. To BE the face of GOD in the earth.  To BE ready always!

I pray that as you prepare for this most wonderful New Year that we are on the brink of, that you will consider being that thing that you've put off for so long.  Whether it is as simple as being present more for your family, being honest or being that very thing that you've been told you're too old to be.  Or maybe it's that thing you've been too afraid to do.  Whatever it is, I pray you'll BE it!
