HIS works

Jeremiah 9:23-24 ESV
Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth.  For in these things I delight, declares the LORD."

I walked into our local general store a few nights ago, and there I found a small group of men from the neighborhood who seem to congregate their in the evenings.  They are usually bragging about something they've done, what they have or the ability of their sons to play a certain sport.  Sometimes they are even bragging on their favorite famous athlete.

I have wondered to myself, what causes someone to brag on someone else's abilities.  What makes them talk as though they actually know these individuals.  How do they go on and on about them?  The conversations of this group is often heated at times.  You can hear them throughout the entire store.  This night, I thought briefly; "LORD, what is the point of it all?"  I came home and was led to this scripture.  But not until now did it all fit together.

They know of their works.  They are excited about their works (the works of their children, or favorite athlete).  What these men were doing was no different than what we as Christians should do.  (I am not suggesting that you go to your local store and brag, argue and speak loudly in public and debate.)  What I am saying is this.  Those men were no different than you or I as we begin to get excited about JESUS and what HE's done for us.

Have you ever had a moment when someone asked you how your day was and all you could do is brag on JESUS?  Not because of yourself;  it's not a moment of boastfulness for you.  It's not a moment to brag on what you received.  Yet a moment to just boast in GOD and the works HE has performed in your life.  You "know" the works of GOD.  You know what HE has done for you.  You know that if it had not been for the LORD on your side.....  You "know" that you've seen GOD's steadfast love and righteousness operate in your life.

If you feel as though you cannot relate to this; I challenge you to take 5 minutes and reflect over just the last several months of your life.  You know, the missed accident on the road when you were driving way too fast.  Or perhaps the situation that could've ended much worst for you in court.  Perhaps you've got a story of healing or a surprise check in the mail, just when you needed it the most.  I bet you will not only find a dozen or more works that GOD has performed in your life in that 5 minutes, but I believe it's safe to say, that you'll also discover a new found praise in your spirit.

GOD is faithful.  Consider HIS works and give HIM glory for all that HE has done in your life.
