Come On In
James 4:8-10 ESV
Draw near to GOD, and HE will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the LORD, and HE will exalt you.
I remember being afraid of GOD. I had believed the enemy's lie that the closer I got to GOD, HE would see just how broken and messed up I was and realize HE had made the biggest mistake ever in choosing me. But I'll tell you what actually happened. The closer I drew to HIM, the closer HE drew to me.
You see, exposure did take place. But not in the condemning way I was led to believe. GOD exposed HIS heart for me. HE showed me through HIS written word and HIS spoken word (that HE continues to confirm) how much he truly loves me. Unconditional love is healing. It restores, it builds up, it defends, it protects....Love is amazing!
So often we turn away from love; the love of GOD and of others because we believe that we don't deserve it or that we have to earn it. Well, a love you have to earn, really isn't love. I'm not saying that you shouldn't require respect, commitment, etc. in your relationships. These things are necessary. However, in true love, you're loved in spite of. In spite of your flaws, shortcomings and differences. It is unconditional love that drives us all to repentance and healing.
Draw close to GOD through studying of the word and time in prayer. Begin with 5 minutes a day. I promise you that the more you spend time with GOD, the more you will want to spend time with him and before you know it the 5 minutes will turn into set appointment times where you may even chose a special place to go to hear from GOD and to pray. Whatever, you do; get started!
