Presence as a Priority
2 Samuel 6:12 ESV
And it was told King David, "The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of GOD." So David went and brought up the ark of GOD from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.
I use to wonder why it was that David made the journey to remove the Ark of the Covenant from the home of Obed-edom. It seems logical right? The word says Obed-edom's entire household was being blessed. So surely, David wanted the blessings, right??
Well, that never sat well with me. Why would David go and remove it, just for the blessings, I would ponder. Until today, when I was reminded to examine the heart of David. The bible says that he was a man after GOD's own heart. Which actually means something more than what we've even perceived all these years. David was a man who sought GOD's heart. He wanted to capture GOD's heart; to please HIM. Not that he was just like GOD at heart. No. David alone, without GOD was a man overtaken by lust and desire. He was a man of war. But more than any of the things David struggled with; was his desire for GOD to be present in HIS life. David wanted the presence of GOD more than he wanted anything else.
Can you say the same today? Will you seek the presence of GOD above anything else. Will you desire HIS presence even when it looks as though you are losing the promises of GOD? Will you seek HIS presence in the midst of confusion when what you see looks nothing like what you've expected?
Today, it is my prayer that you will "see" past the blessings and seek and desire the presence of GOD in your life more than anything else. For in HIS presence is fullness of joy and pleasures evermore.
