The Gift of Grace

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NIV
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

The more that I meditate on this word, the more I am overwhelmed with joy.  (Yes, we're reading the same scripture, and yes I know that God left the thorn in his side.)  I am overjoyed because God gave the apostle one of the greatest gifts He could give.  God gave him grace.

Grace is the unmerited favor of God.  In essence God said..."I can remove this thorn now, but removing this thorn won't help you in the next situation or tight spot you find yourself in.  So, instead, I'll give you my grace."  (VB Version 2021).  God's grace is for every situation.  How do I know this?  I know because the apostle went on to say...."Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses (plural), so that Christ's power may rest on me."

Like the apostle, we will all make more mistakes in our lifetime; we won't always get things right.  Not even on our best days.  Yet, we have a high priest whose grace will be with us in every situation.  I not only want to encourage you to be a partaker of this grace.  I also want to encourage you to grant this same grace to others.  Note: If you are in a toxic relationship or have recently left an abusive situation, this word is not telling you that you must give grace to your abuser and allow him or her back into your life.  God does not intend for his children to be abused.  God does however, expect for us to walk into every situation, knowing that no matter what we face in that moment, that His grace is and forever will be sufficient for it all!
