In the Face of It

Mark 9:23 NKJV
Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!"

In the past whenever I have heard this scripture taught, the majority of the teachers, addressed the unbelief.  The lesson usually addressed the scripture as depicting a man who just did not have enough faith for his son to be healed.  I saw that.  Yet, this morning, I see something different.

I now see this encounter of Jesus with this man, as an opportunity for God to show us what to do in the face of unbelief.  I believe God was showing us that unbelief may be present in the face of belief.  This is something many struggle with.  We may ask ourselves, how is it that I am so full of faith one day and the next day doubt shows up?  I would like to submit for your consideration that doubt being present should not be your focus.  That you must see it as an opposition and not a weakness.  Opposition and weakness are not the same.  This man clearly believed, or he would have not sought out Jesus.  When the disciples could not heal his son, this man would have given up.  Yet in the face of failure, he still keeps pressing to find Jesus.

Something I have learned is that the word of God always goes ahead of us.  This scripture proves this.  The man needed for his son to be healed and delivered.  Jesus told him that all things were possible to him who believes.  Jesus undoubtedly knew that unbelief was present.  So, to me this verse was the encouragement the man needed to confess his belief.  His belief was the determining factor in his son's healing; not the unbelief that was present.  Faith (our belief) is the only thing that Ephesians tells us will quench every fiery dart of the evil one.  Meaning our faith will always be under attack.  Yet, if we choose to believe; All Things are possible for us today.

My faith is opposing fear today.  Yet, my faith will win at the table of choice.  Because I choose to believe God.  I choose to believe His word.  I choose to believe every promise that He has made to me; although it makes no human sense for Him to bring me victory in the way in which he has promised it. Yet, I expect it to manifest, just the way in which he has spoken it to me.  I encourage you today to believe God in the face of unbelief! I am praying for you.
